User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6 Gmail: cannot start "compose mail" in new window (tab) because of the popup blocker. Problem remains even when I allow popups from gmail.com or disable popup blocker completely. It hapens every time i want to use "new window" link in Gmail. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.If you have gmial account - log in 2.Try to compose new mail by pressing "Shift" and clicking "Compose Mail" 3.or click compose mail and then "new window" link. Actual Results: Popup blocker blocks new "compose mail" window and Gmail claims that popup blocker is working Expected Results: Be able to allow popups from gmail.com

Gmail is a complex web application. The compose link is a not a normal link, I think it is javascript link. This might be dupe of Bug 55696 in that case.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050816 Firefox/1.0+ ID:2005081608 WFM
WORKSFORME as long as 'mail.google.com' is on the popup whitelist or if the popup blocker is disabled. Using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20050816 Firefox/1.0+. Seems like it is definitely a mousedown event triggering the popup, and that (bug 239403) is marked WONTFIX. Just change your whitelist entry from 'gmail.com' to 'mail.google.com' and it should work for you.

Shift+C, which is also supposed to open gmail's compose page in a new window, is also blocked by the Firefox popup blocker. I don't know if that's because Gmail is using the wrong event, or because Firefox blocks all the onkey* events.
Summary: mail.google.com - Uses onmousedown popups, which Firefox blocks → mail.google.com - Uses onmousedown popups for compose window, which Firefox blocks

I did as you wrote but it doesn't work. I tried many domain names and it is still blocking.

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9pre) Gecko/2008050317 Minefield/3.0pre WFM. Shift+click on the Compose link works fine, and Gmail doesn't need to be on my popup blocker whitelist.
