Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6
Build Identifier: version 1.0.6 (20050716)
Thunderbird currently lacks any UI mechanism by which the user can disable
automatic polls for software updates. In the Advanced pane of the Preferences
window, there is "Check Now" button (under the heading "Software Update") to
manually force a check for new updates, but there are no means to prevent future
checks from happening automatically.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the Preferences window.
2. Click on the Advanced pane.
3. Scroll down to the Software Update section.
4. Notice that there is a Check Now button, but no means to prevent future checks.
Roughly, this exists:
=====================================
- Software Update
Check for updates to My Extensions and Themes:
[Check Now]
=====================================
Expected Results:
There should be checkboxes to allow the user to disable periodic checks for new
updates.
Compare to Firefox:
1. Open the Firefox Preferences window.
2. Click on the Advanced pane.
3. Scroll down to the Software Update section.
4. Notice that there is a Check Now button, and above it, two checkboxes to
enable/disable automatic checks for new updates, roughly:
=====================================
- Software Update
Periodically check for updates to:
[X] Firefox
[X] My Extensions and Themes
[Check Now]
=====================================
Thunderbird should provide a similar UI configuration to Firefox:
=====================================
- Software Update
Periodically check for updates to:
[X] My Extensions and Themes
[Check Now]
