It may be technically the simplest and most straightforward thing to do, but not really what a user wants. That is: when new messages come into the inbox, Thunderbird immediately moves them to their sorted position. Other mail clients will put them at the end of the list where you are sure to see them. Sorting is treated like an action that occurs when you click one of the headers, not a permanent, dynamically enforced state as Thunderbird seems to treat it. Normally I have messages sorted by date. If a new message comes in with a timestamp which is incorrect, it may not appear where I will see it. This is especially annoying in spam, which quite often comes in with a bogus date, and I'm always finding old spam I never noticed way back in my inbox. It's less common with real email, but more harmful if it does. Yes, in theory people should never be sending incorrectly dated email, but it DOES happen from time to time, and this behavior could cause such a message to be entirely missed by the user. Reproducible: Always Expected Results: Place incoming messages at the end of the list. Only sort, when list headers or clicked, or perhaps when opening the folder.

If you want that, you should sort the inbox by 'order received' (that's possible in T-bird 1.0+, I don't know if it's in 1.0.6).

Eric does `order received' not fulfill your needs? If it does fulfill them, then I will resolve this bug as INCO in 3 weeks.
