RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 193749

Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6

I am not running any extensions or themes.

I use Firefox 1.0.6. I have been using Firefox since version 1.0, with no
problems until installing v.1.0.6. I had to reinstall it because of strange
behaviour once already. I removed the entire folder and did a fresh install.

Then it seemed to run OK, except for an issue with history. Pressing the back
button occasionally would not return me to the page I started from ... it is as
if the browser forgets that those pages have just been visited. It happened
across a number of different, normally reliable, websites. I was having to
restart again and it seemed to work OK.

Then today, and I have no idea why, but I get a black screen when opening the
browser. I have the latest PDF and Java plugins. The mouse then disappeared and
the screen was distorted.

I have not installed any new software recently, except for over five days ago
some software related to my digital camera (CANON Photorecord and ZoomBrowserEX).

I tried running in safe mode, and running IExplorer, which worked. But could not
see what is blocking Firefox. I restarted and tried Firefox in normal mode, but
now see that I have lost all my bookmarks. There is not even a back up folder in
Docs and Settings under my profile anymore.

There are no viruses on my system (per AVG and PANDA scans). Also, there are no
extensions or plugins installed with Firefox.

I am going to remove 1.0.6 and go back to 1.0.5 and see if that works better.

But if you have any suggestions I would be very pleased to hear from you. Thank
you for reading my report.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
Don't wish to reproduce this because I am frankly afraid of a black screen and I
can't afford to lose my system altogether or to have to spend three days
reinstalling everything.

Did not receive any crash messages. Only a black screen, then return to normal
screen, then black again, mouse disappearing, etc, until I restart.

PC runs fine until I start Firefox.
