User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.9) Gecko/20050719 Firefox/1.0.5 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.9) Gecko/20050719 Firefox/1.0.5 I run Gentoo - Linux amd64 with firefox-bin and have applied an upgrade of my system (as I usually do) as well as of firefox. At complition, all my plugins are gone. At gentoo forum, they adviced me to remove .mozilla and run firefox again. Doing so, it fixes my plugin issue (about:plugins) displaying all plugins My questions: 1) How come this happened? 2) Removing .mozilla solves my problem but creates a bigger one: how do I reverse all my custom settings back without having to set them manually one by one? Thank you, Spiro Reproducible: Always
You shouldn't need to totally delete or expunge your ~/.mozilla. If you rename it, you can copy your settings files from the old to the new. See Bug 269814 "add repair feature to Firefox profiles". There is a lot more information in the forums. Possibly Bugzilla may not provide user support at all (though I agree that your end user experience has not been satisfactory): You might want to check for official methods (if any) for upgrading. You might be on your own in the sense that the regulars here will only diagnose and debug problems with offical released versions.rof ""
Hi Ben Fowler, I read your other link. I wish to ask if you can kindly list at least the corresponding files to this settings: - Saved passwords - history - extension settings, like addblock with all the URL saved in. Obviously, I will have to reinstall all themes and extensions, right? Thanks, Spiro
(In reply to comment #2) See http://www.tweakguides.com/Firefox_7.html http://www.bytecave.net/anders/guide/SinglePage/#TroubleShooting http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Folder http://gemal.dk/mozilla/files.html > I read your other link. > I wish to ask if you can kindly list at least the corresponding files to this > settings: > > - Saved passwords I am not sure > - history history.dat > - extension settings, like addblock with all the URL saved in. I am not sure > Obviously, I will have to reinstall all themes and extensions, right? Bugzilla is not the best place to come to for User Support: it is quite possible that you will find the information you need in one of the forums, try http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=38 . I was hoping that the files you need are saved somewhere, so that you can copy them back. You might prefer to re-install and re-configure your extensions, but a discussion of that that is well outside the mission of Bugzilla. If you think - and you might - that your problem is the result of some defect in Firefox, then you could, ahem, try to reproduce the problem and provide information for someone to investigate and fix it. Whilst Mozilla developers take data-loss issues very seriously, I am fairly sure that there is no qualified (tested) procedure for laid down for upgrading other than between released versions. See http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/releases/1.0.5.html
Hi Ben Fowler, I thank you very much for your kind reply. I will go through your material and report back if needed, Spiro

I strongly suggest that you update to Firefox 3.6.3 or later, update your plugins (flash, adobe, etc.), and retest in a new profile.
