User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4
I have been running Firefox from the start and most recently was happy with
version 1.0.4. Updates kept insisting that I install version 1.0.6 so I finally
did. After upgrading, any and all pages I try and access give me a time out
message and load nothing.
I am running a 2.66 Intel Pentium 4 system with 512 MB of RAM and 240 gig or so
of hard drive space on 2 seperate drives: an 80 and 180 gig (both Western Digital).
I am running Windows XP Pro with latest Service Pack (2) and the latest patches
and updates applied.
FYI, I tried upgrading from 1.04 to 1.0.6 on my wife's Dell P4 2.8 gig system
running Windows XP Home Edition and got similar results - there the browser just
kept crashing and wouldn't start at all.
I uninstalled version 1.0.6, loaded version 1.0.4 and here I am at a web page.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Upgrade to Firefox 1.0.6
2. Start the browser
3. Time Out
Actual Results:
Timed out going to the following home page:
http://start.mozilla.org/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
Also timed out going straight to Google, to microsoft.com, etc.
Expected Results:
The browser should have opened the web page(s) I tried to access.

Works For Me
Installing a newer version requires you to tell your firewall about the new
version of software, otherwise it may be blocked. It is likely whatever firewall
you are using is aware of and is allowing 1.0.4 through, while blocking 1.0.6
from access to internet.
Please search support forums such as forums.mozillazine.org before filing a bug
here, as this particular issue crops up practically every day.

Gee, I never thought of searching the reports. Oh, wait, yes I did and there was
nothing relating to TIME OUTS.
As for checking my firewall, wow, I missed that, too. No, wait, I didn't - Zone
Alarm Pro was set to allow Firefox to access the Internet and yet I still got
those pesky timeouts.
Then there was the information regarding the second computer where version 1.0.6
just plain crashed and wouldn't run at all.
Thanks for nothing.
FYI, I have more than 25 years in the computer business from mainframes to PCs
to UNIX systems. Next time I want to be treated like a complete idiot who can't
even spell PC, I'll be sure to use the Mozilla forums. What you can be sure of
is that I will be switching browsers so I don't have to deal with another smug,
arrogant ass such as James Price.
Hey Jimmy boy, what are you, about 22 or 23? I've got more time on a keyboard
than you probably have living and breathing. Next time, ask some questions, do
some research and read the whole damn bug report, not just the part that seems
easy to answer.
Thanks for nothing.

Basically you said you could not connect to any websites you tried at all,
right? or able to connect to some with Firefox 1.0.6 ?
If the case is not beinbg able to connect at all, the top cause in general for
not being able to connect to any sites after you install a new version of
Firefox is due to a Firewall for some reason blocking the new version and
causing this problem until it is sorted out, with Norton being one of the worst
offenders in this case. You may rule out Zone Alarm, but there is still a small
chance it could be a problem still perhaps.
Other causes could be due to unfortunately to an extension or theme as there are
a few extensions that have caused problem for some people during upgrade from
1.0.4 to 1.0.6
So what Firefox extensions and themes did/do you have installed if any?
Try starting Firefox in -safe-mode as Jaime suggested as because if Firefox
1.0.6 was able to connect in safe-mode, then it could be an issue with your
profile unfortunately. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
If it is a profile problem, you could try creating a new one with he
profilemanager without deleting the old one and if Firefox 1.0.6 connects fine,
you can then migrate settings from the old profile to the new one, though you
may want to back up your old profile or at least any specific things like
bookmarks first in case.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager
I do hope you will try Firefox 1.5 when it comes out as if all goes well, as it
should be much better than the 1.0.x branch.
Based on your posting, I would not be surprised if most users on
forums.mozillazine.org for example would have thought it was a Firewall problem
also, before considering other potential causes.
Sorry if you thought I was being rude, and as for your other comments toward me,
well I'm going to ignore that as I want you to be able to continue using
Firefox. Perhaps if you do have the experience with computers as you said,
hopefully you would look at ways of improving Firefox by way of patches for new
features, bug fixes etc for example in your spare time.
I do hope you are able to get Firefox 1.0 6 working and have a nice day. :-)
