Currently the app update seems to download from the Oregon University server only.
For people in other areas in the world this means a very slow update.

Oregon downloads tops at ~20kb/s while most of the European mirror (my region)
easily reach 300kb/s ++

Maybe the Software Update dialog could include an option from which region the
user wishes to download its update
It would be better to just pick intelligently based on IP or something.

Updates should go through Bouncer which directs you to an appropriate mirror.
chase, morgamic: this has been fixed, correct?
These days release updates go thru download.mozilla.org (bouncer), while nightly updates now come from a different single machine (ftp.m.o). The current setup doesn't allow nightly updates to come from the pool of mirrors because they don't carry the {firefox,thunderbird}/nightly directories.
