User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6 When clicking the minimize button on the Firefox window, the window will minimize to the Taskbar but immediately bounce back to the active opened state. Only after repeating the action a few times will the window remain in the minimized state. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start Firefox. 2. Minimize the Firefox window. 3. Actual Results: When clicking the minimize button on the Firefox window, the window will minimize to the Taskbar but immediately bounce back to the active opened state. Only after repeating the action a few times will the window remain in the minimized state. Expected Results: Minimize the window without "bouncing back" to the active opened state.

This might depend on point of view. For me, minimising a maximised window (and I always run maximised) will simply "restore" it ... i.e. de-maximise it. I used to think I was clicking Restore instead of Minimize but I am now 100% sure that I am hitting Minimize. The program is seemingly mixing the two up. This also happens if I click the taskbar button to minimise it -- the window just drops into restore state. Indeed, this will happen repeatedly until it finally lets me minimise it. Something is getting very confused. I can also note that this behaviour occurs on both XP SP 2 and 2000 SP 4, Firefox 1.0.6 (maybe also 1.0.4 but it's especially bad in 1.0.6). I don't think this was a problem before 1.0.4.

I am wondering if anyone has looked into this? It's annoying to experience minimize problem time and again on Firefox.
I encounter this in Mozilla 1.8b, rarely though. A couple of years ago I encountered this bug routinely in Mozilla, can't remember which versions. They were definately prior to 1.5 note:I don't use Firefox

I have also had this problem, but with the release of 1.5 this problem occurs only once in a blue moon.
I found out the problem! To reproduce this, do the following: 1) Move your mouse over the Firefox symbol in the top right of the screen (under the Exit X button) until "Go to Firefox home page appears". 2) Move your mouse directly up, to the X button, then left to the minimize button, and try to minimize Firefox 1.5.0.1 - you'll notice the tooltipe "Go to..." stays showing. 3) Firefox will minimize, then instantly restore... I'm guessing this is because it considers the tooltip dissapearing a refresh, show it reshows the browser. But why is this a problem for me (who actually moves their mouse over the Firefox logo, then north to the X, then left to the minimize button)? Well, I have Forecastfox directly under the minimize button, and it also shows tooltips - so disabling this fixes the problem.
I FIXED IT!!! I went to Tweak UI, and went to the "Focus" tab, and checked "Prevent applications from stealing focus"...this FIXED the problem! Finally, thanks!

never mind, I still have the problem...not sure how to fix it...but in Firefox 2.0, it should NOT restore (gain attention) if a window is active, including popup tooltips, or GMAIL page loading...

also having this problem - it's very annoying because I like to use the system menu to minimize programs (Alt+Space N or right-click the titlebar and click Minimize) I can't apply the "Prevent applications from stealing focus" workaround because something changes this parameter to default on every startup :( Can't always reproduce the problem - it happens at random. The "Logo" testcase doesn't mess it up for me - although I've seen many times a tooltip sticking around even when it's not supposed to. Thought: can this be extension-related? I haven't tried to replicate this bug without extensions.

(In follow-up to comment #11): Okay, I have confirmed a testcase which replicates the problem repeatedly. (Sorry, this requires fast hands or a testing tool that can replicate user actions with keyboard or mouse :) setup: my firefox is using latest Tab Mix Plus with option to always keep the tab bar (even when only one tab is there), and not close browser window when ctrl+W is pressed on the last tab ("extensions.tabmix.keepWindow" = true). 1: close all tabs (there will be one left) 2: press ctrl+W. When using Tab Mix Plus with above options, there's a noticeable delay while closing the page. Namely, the progress bar on the status bar will flicker for a short time (probably because a blank page is rendered) 3: If minimize command is issued while the blank page is loading (I use Alt+space N), then the window will first minimize then restore immediately. I was unable to replicate this problem in vanilla firefox (no extensions) since tabs close noticeably faster and I can't send the minimize command while a tab is being closed. A testing tool (macro recording) might be able to replicate this behavior since it'll probably be faster than I am. Note, I'm not 100% certain this is a firefox bug, it may be an extension bug. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Apple iMac, Intel Core Duo, OS X 10.4.8, Firefox 2.0.0.2 Since I upgraded to 2.0.0.2, the minimize button (yellow button in middle of three at upper left) does not work. I can minimize from the keyboard (cmd-M) but not by clicking that button.

I think our bug is covered here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=369894 Bug 369894: Minimize button stops working after loading Java applet (JEP 0.9.6, Carbon-only, Tiger and above).

(In reply to comment #13 & #14) > Since I upgraded to 2.0.0.2, the minimize button (yellow button in middle of > three at upper left) does not work. I can minimize from the keyboard (cmd-M) > but not by clicking that button. > (Power Mac Dual G4 - OSX 10.4.9 - Firefox 2.0.0.3) I too am having this problem. However, I've noticed it more often when I have multiple windows & tabs open at the same time. I searched the Bugs for this specific problem with no luck (different from the bouncing window bug). If I restart Firefox, the problem goes away for a while, but eventually returns. The F11 key works to remove all windows, and double-clicking the title bar also minimizes the specific window (both OS functions). I even re-installed Firefox and was fooled for a while that the problem was resolved. For now I'm resorting to hiding Firefox using shortcut keys, but a fix would be greatly appreciated.

Using a clean profile, I can't reproduce this using the originally reported STR. I can't use the STR in comment #8 because there's no Firefox logo below the close button in Firefox 2.x. Regarding the STR in comment #12: "If minimize command is issued while the blank page is loading (I use Alt+space N), then the window will first minimize then restore immediately." If Firefox loads a page while it's minimized, the Firefox window will be restored. That's all that seems to be going on here to me. I can reproduce the reported behavior by pressing control-t to create a new tab and immediately clicking the minimize button. Firefox minimizes before the blank page loads, only to be restored (almost immediately) when the new tab is loaded. Unless I'm missing something, this seems to be by design to me, but that's for someone else to decide. The OS X / minimize button issue in comment #13 should probably be filed as a separate bug, if that hasn't already been done. WFM as well using Firefox 2.0.0.4 on Windows XP SP 2. The Mac OS X issue that was reported is bug 369894 and was fixed in 2.0.0.4. If you can reproduce this issue using Firefox 2.0.0.4 with a clean profile, please provide clear steps that caused it.
