User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050427 Camino/0.8.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050427 Camino/0.8.4 Camino has run fine for months. Suddenly this week, right-clicking or command-clicking on a link no longer opens a link in the foreground. Stalls on Loading. Plus the new empty tab won't close. Went back to the default, leaving Load New Tabs in Background selected under Tabbed Browsing in the prefs. Even then, command-W no longer closes a tab. The window will close, leaving the vestigial tab open Clicking on the little x at the right end of the tab works for a followup, ca 75% of the time. Now also, the Prefs menu disappears almost every session. Quitting and restarting Camino brings it back up for a time. Thanks Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Deselect Load Tabs in Background under Tabbed Browsing pref. 2. Load a new tab by right-clicking a tab and selecting Open in New Tab 3. Actual Results: New tabs won't load, as described above. Plus the whole Preferences menu disappears, only headers showing. Thanks! Expected Results: Tabs open in foreground when that pref selected. Tabs close on command-W. Preferences menu stay available. Thanks again!

You're using 0.8.4 and this problem just "showed up"? Or have you been using a nightly?
In addition to questions in comment 1, do things clear up if you move your old profile aside and let Camino create a new one? (profile = ~/Library/Application Support/Camino folder)

to Comment 1 - No nightlies. Been using 0.8.4 since it came out; the glitch showed up this past week. Opening a new tab from a link works OK in background. But shoot, one of the beauties of Camino is that it opens new tabs in the foreground, unlike the unworthy competition. to Comment 2 - already tried that. Makes me suspect my system (10.2.8). As I'd mentioned, the Camino app file was fragmented into 62 pieces. But doing fsck plus Disk Doctor plus Speed Disk had no effect. Haven't done anything else weird. Thanks again! JAD

I'd sent a followup note yesterday, but had missed the Commit button below. The gist was that I hadn't been sitting on my hands. First did every system fix handy, fsck plus Norton checks. In Speed Disk the Camino app showed up in 62 pieces. All this had no effect. Re-installed the works, incl the profile in the Library folder. Still the same malfunction, the worst part of which is the Prefs menus disappearing, so Camino has to be restarted to put new tabs back in the background. Cheers, thanks.

Can you try a recently nightly and see if the problem re-occurs? It definitely sounds like a system problem, not something Camino is doing, but I'd like to be sure of it and testing another version of Camino might help.

Just downloaded and installed the latest nightly. Went thru the whole magilla. Tossed prefs folder, logged out and in again after install. Now the tabs work find in the foreground. At the same time, the prefs panes disappear as soon as I load a new tab, foreground or background. So it appears these were two separate bugs. This is better now. Quitting and restarting to get to the prefs isn't a huge deal. Having tabs work right is a relief. Looks like the prefs panels washing out really is a Camino problem, though. Thanks for the help.
Something is defently gone funky on your system, I have never ever seen or heard of such behaviour. What system are you running, are you sure you don't have hidden prefs in your user.js file (in the profile folder) or any extra pref panes running.

>What system are you running ... 10.2.8. And yes we're updating to 10.4.2 next month, finally. >are you sure you don't have hidden prefs in your user.js file (in the profile folder) ... the profile folder doesn't have a user.js file in it. I swear. >any extra pref panes running. ... nope. OK, you'll like this. Just ran Camino thru its paces, and for the first time in some 10 days it's bug free. With the new build from Friday night, first the tabs worked fine, now the prefs panels open thru the session. Runs like a champ. I'd made no changes from last night. Apparently shutting down the machine and restarting today made a difference. Thanks! I like the changed prefs panels as well, from 0.8.4. Cheers, Jamie

Since the reporter couldn't reproduce any more and it never seemed to be a problem with Camino (but probably with the system), closing this bug as WORKSFORME.

Thanks again. The new build 0.9a2+ is working fine. And yes with payday coming right up, going to boost the RAM on this machine and install 10.4.2.
