After I select a profile and hit ENTER, to start up the main app, the
application hangs.
Subsequent attempts to get it to come up fail, and I need to restart WIndows.

When I do that, I get notification that Windows can not close down the XPCON
process.

After restart, all is well.

Happens quite often.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open a profile
2. shut down app, select another profile, and open that one
3. repeat till error condition happens

Actual Results:
system hangs, i need to restart windows to get into my mail

Expected Results:
bring up the main application
Severity: normal → critical

This looks like a local system problem.
Thunderbird is a userspace application and Windows (win nt/2k/xp/2k3) can always
kill it and it's a system problem if that doesn't work

Reporter, does the issue still occur in the latest supported 2.0.0.x / trunk nightlies?

(1.5.0.x is now end-of-life and the latest supported 2.0.0.x is 2.0.0.16)
