To highlight text now takes 3 steps after selecting the text. 1) Click the
"Choose color for text" box, 2) select a color, 3) click OK. Why can this not
work in one step, as it does in Outlook? Outlook always displays a little box
(like Thunderbird does) and it's always the last selected color - automatically
updated. Clicking that color box will color the selected text in 1 step. Can
you please simplify/fix the Thunderbird process so that only one step is needed
if the previous color is what you want? Thank you.

Reproducible: Always
Shift-Click should work, see Core bug 72090.

Bug 90665 is an RFE for a general Repeat Formatting command
Bug 90670 is about reworking the color-picker to be a popup-menu -- would reduce the number of clicks but still require renavigating the popup for every color change.
Bug 97840 appears to be about the worthlessness of the background-color-picker in that toolbar button (since changing that color changes it for the entire document).

That is: select the text, Shift+Click on the color-swatch.
