Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6
Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird version 1.0.6 (20050716)

After selecting a message (in Inbox, an subfolder of Inbox itself, or Sent...
probably a message in any folder) if you select an Inbox subfolder in the
Folders Pane then all message-related buttons become inactive, except for the
delete one. The buttons stays active whicheever other folder you select after.
This does not happen if the first folder selection is another main folder of the
account (all message buttons become inactive). You obviously need to have some
subfolders in Inbox.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select a mail message. Message-related toolbar buttons become active.
2. Select an Inbox subfolder in the Folders Pane. Only delete buttons remains
active.

Actual Results:
All message related toolbar buttons become inactive, but the Delete one.

Expected Results:
All message related toolbar buttons shall become inactive.

Default theme, account on a remote PC (local thunderbird profile folder contains
only "profiles.ini", which points to the remote profile folder, and "registry.dat")
Silly me, it means "delete folder"... I don't think it's really so user friendly
(although logical, once known): I was quite suspicious of its effects before
trying after selecting a fake message, as the main folders does not show this
behaviour.
It shouldn't remain active for the main account folders anyway, as it isn't if
they are selected without selecting subfolders first. Or am I still wrong?
version 1.6a1 (20050903)

For me, the delete button is only active when I have a message selected.

I think having "delete message" and "delete folder" use the same button is a really bad idea. It's entirely too easy to delete the whole folder by accident. It does ask for confirmation, but it only takes one thoughtless click on "ok" and you've toasted an entire folder of mail.
the real bug here is bug 254386. The delete button gets into a disabled state when a folder is selected.

It's not easy to delete a folder accidentally. A warning dialog appears.
