Details

User-Agent:       Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050717 Firefox/1.0.6
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050717 Firefox/1.0.6

Mozilla Quality Feedback Agent/Talkback shipping with each Firefox download,
serves as an (unintentional) distribution agent for a linkspam/domain-squatter site.

Am using Firefox v1.0.6, although the menus in the QFA/Talkback program shipping
with earlier versions also carried this flaw. At 'Help' menu in talkback.exe:
1) 'SupportSoft Software on the web' menuoption leads to seeq.com
linkspam/domain-squatted/parasite site. Similarly, 'About SupportSoft Talkback'
menuoption cites the linkspam URL at bottom of its destination dialog box.

2) Additionally, copyright date on 'About SupportSoft Talkback' dialog box is in
the past, 2004. The rest of the details are MozillaOrg (no period?), Firefox10
(not 1.0.x etc?), Win32, 2005071718 (build date/number?)

Clearly, this is not deliberate on part of Mozilla; nor, was it a likely
intention of 'SupportSoft Software' to act as unconscious enabler for the
linkspammer. It is, however, unfortunate; and it should be rectified. :)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open talkback.exe (e.g. from %PROGRAMFILES%\MOZILL~1\components)
2. Note titlebar reads 'Firefox10' in passing, proceed to Help menu.
3. Selecting 'SupportSoft Software on the web' menuoption leads to
linkspam/domain-squatted/parasite site. Similarly, 'About SupportSoft Talkback'
menuoption cites the linkspam URL at bottom of its destination dialog box.

Expected Results:
URLs, dates, other relevant text should be removed pending update; or simply be
updated.

Misc other files in .../components directory details (virtually all DLLs again
list 2004 copyright date):

* fullsoft.dll. desc: Talkback Library, File versn: 2.2.unofficial
* inspector.dll. [unrelated?] File versn: 1.7.10: 2005071718, Company: Mozilla
Foundation, license: MPL 1.1/GPL 2.0/LGPL 2.1
* qfaservices.dll. File versn: 1.7.10: 2005071718, Internal name: qfaservices.
* talkback.hlp - interesting, this *isn't* available thru talkback.exe help menu
at all? Refers to the 'Netscape Quality Feedback Agent', and specifies a
copyright date of 1997-8 in one section.

Mozilla.org site docs (seem to disagree on details slightly):
1) http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/faq#talkback
2) http://www.mozilla.org/quality/qfa.html
3) '04 external blog entry mentioning Talkback donation:

These bad URL/rebranding bugs all seemed to be duped to bug 243575

Fullsoft / Supportsoft doesn't exists anymore ...

Not sure this is a dupe and seems like something we should take a look at.

SupportSoft sure does, not sure what you're thinking... http://www.supportsoft.com/
For Firefox only the names and menues are rebranded, but the links are not
updated. :-(
Depends on: 243575
Version: unspecified → Trunk
Umm, other bugs that are dupes of this have been DUPE'd against bug 243575. Shouldn't this bug be the same?
