Firefox started and displayed menu (File Edit View Go Bookmarks Tools Help) across top screen but nothing worked and home page didn't load

The problem occurred immediately after downloading a extension update and
restarting.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
Obviously haven't tried to reproduce the problem as it took an evening to fix by
removing and reinstalling Firefox several times with earlier versions until it
finally installed correctly.
Actual Results:  
Firefox is up and running.

Expected Results:  
Should not have been currupted by faulty extension update.

After eventually getting an earlier version to work, I removed all extensions
and and upgraded to the latest version.
And does it work now? Which extension caused this? Anyway, this bug here is
almost certainly invalid, we allow extensions to modify UI and add code, so bad
extensions can hork us.
