It is confusing because most people think it will check for updates for

1.App
2.themes and extensions
3.Search engines

while in reality it just checks the first.

Let's just use the one in the Help menu

Ideally this button would actually check for all of those things, but there's no
supporting mechanisms for this to happen (ref: bug 299507 and bug 302273).
Anyway, we have the menuitem for checking immediately, and the rest of the
options are all about automatically checking, so I'm OK with the idea of yanking
this button completely.

Incidentally, this makes bug 305818 a bit easier to do, because as it is the
UI's inconsistent to the point where documenting it without drawing attention
to the deficiencies is painful.
