User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b3) Gecko/20050712 Firefox/1.0+ Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b3) Gecko/20050712 Firefox/1.0+ Try to review your mail and you won't succeed into opening more than 1 separate message window. Now this might be a feature (as far as I get it) but it's not really well implemented. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Expected Results: One might think that a single window for reading e-mail messages is a good idea but just in the case when open messages are appended into new tabs or sth. People sometimes like using separate windows or just one BUT tabified. In any case such thing should be configurable. Otherwise going through mail proved to be really tedious for me. Good examples are: All the IMs I have ever used, Internet browsers, text editors, etc.
version 1.6a1 (20050828) Works for me. I can open as many new message windows as I want to.

Since I am not aware how to check it better, this is what I found in my Help -> About window. And this issue persists with me. version 1.0+ (20050712) Obviously your build is newer. Yet my binary is the official one (for Alpha 2), which I have found on the mozilla web site today (08/28/2005 EET).
Works for me in the latest branch version (20050827). Just double-click on a message and a window will open.
I'm seeing this in both thunderbird 1.0.x and nightly branch builds (20050829 /linux). Don't know if it's a bug or not.
Um... there is a preference controlling this behavior: Tools | Options | Advanced | General Open new messages in: () A new message window () An existing message window
