Sounds like Firefox is crashing because of a bad extension. Do you see this in
safe mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode (be sure you kill off firefox.exe
before trying to use safe mode)

Uninstall FF and reinstall (to rule out a corrupted installation)

I have uninstalled twice and reinstalled but still get error message. Firewall
is set up to accept Firefox.

That just leaves your profile to blame.
Can you rename your profile directory from %appdata%\mozilla\firefox\ to
%appdata%\mozilla\firefox_old\
Than start Firefox
It should start, but you would not have your old bookmarks and other usefull stuff.
Close Firefox and go to http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup
section "Making a partial backup".
Copy the files mentioned there from your "old profile" into your new one and
start FF again.
