When you click the currently selected plugin in the search bar, a list of
possible pluggins drops down. This same drop-down list should be accessible
using the keyboard.

Alt+down and Shift+down both gives a list of previous search strings. Perhaps
one of those should be changed.

Ctrl+down and Ctrl+up will change search engines one by one (without displaying
the drop-down list), but this is far from ideal when there are many to choose from.

Reproducible: Always
Please don't file bugs on Firefox 1.0.x.

Well, correction. You can file security or crash related bugs on 1.0.x. Other
than that, look to later versions for improvements. Firefox 1.0.x is based on a
2 year old version of Gecko.
