306976 - Cannot install Firefox from SuSE 9.3 RPM or downloaded tar.gz image

with both the SuSE .rpm and the downloaded tar.gz image 
downloaded above I get a similar error when attempting to run
firefox for the first time;  The attempt to run would display firefox
on a remote display as local server has no X display running;  I had
just run a kernel "Xconfig" successfully (i.e. using "X"), but Firefox
would not run.  The error message and core dump are attached:

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Either install Suse "MozillaFireFox package and run firefox -or-
2. download firefox-installer.tar.gz and unpack image and run installer script
as root
Actual Results:

Expected Results:  
I hoped it would install and run firefox :-(.

After the SuSE rpm failed, I uninstalled it and tried downloading the latest
package from the mozilla firefox website.  It failed in the same manor.

I attempted to follow the instructions in the error message: running the
"pango-querymodules" routine.  It seemed  to run with no apparent error output:

I would submit a compressed copy of the core file, but there doesn't seem to be
a way to submit an attachment during the bug submission process. ;-(
