User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6 Build Identifier: http://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-1.0.6&os=linux&lang=en-US with both the SuSE .rpm and the downloaded tar.gz image downloaded above I get a similar error when attempting to run firefox for the first time; The attempt to run would display firefox on a remote display as local server has no X display running; I had just run a kernel "Xconfig" successfully (i.e. using "X"), but Firefox would not run. The error message and core dump are attached: Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Either install Suse "MozillaFireFox package and run firefox -or- 2. download firefox-installer.tar.gz and unpack image and run installer script as root Actual Results: firefox-installer> ishtar:law/proj/firefox-installer> sudo ./firefox-installer Error reading Pango modules file (firefox-installer-bin:8579): Pango-WARNING **: No builtin or dynamically loaded modules were found. Pango will not work correctly. This probably means there was an error in the creation of: '/etc/opt/gnome/pango/pango.modules' You may be able to recreate this file by running pango-querymodules. (firefox-installer-bin:8579): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_ref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed (firefox-installer-bin:8579): Pango-CRITICAL **: _pango_engine_shape_shape: assertion `PANGO_IS_FONT (font)' failed Pango-ERROR **: file shape.c: line 75 (pango_shape): assertion failed: (glyphs->num_glyphs > 0) aborting... ./firefox-installer: line 56: 8579 Aborted (core dumped) ./${BINNAME}-bin $@ Expected Results: I hoped it would install and run firefox :-(. After the SuSE rpm failed, I uninstalled it and tried downloading the latest package from the mozilla firefox website. It failed in the same manor. I attempted to follow the instructions in the error message: running the "pango-querymodules" routine. It seemed to run with no apparent error output: proj/firefox-installer> sudo pango-querymodules # Pango Modules file # Automatically generated file, do not edit # # ModulesPath = /opt/gnome/lib/pango/1.4.0/modules # /opt/gnome/lib/pango/1.4.0/modules/pango-arabic-fc.so ArabicScriptEngineFc PangoEngineShape PangoRenderFc arabic:* /opt/gnome/lib/pango/1.4.0/modules/pango-basic-fc.so BasicScriptEngineFc PangoEngineShape PangoRenderFc armenian:* bopomofo:* cherokee:* coptic:* cyrillic:* deseret:* ethiopic:* georgian:* gothic:* greek:* han:* hiragana:* katakana:* latin:* ogham:* old-italic:* runic:* canadian-aboriginal:* yi:* braille:* cypriot:* limbu:* osmanya:* shavian:* linear-b:* ugaritic:* common: /opt/gnome/lib/pango/1.4.0/modules/pango-basic-x.so BasicScriptEngineX PangoEngineShape PangoRenderX common: /opt/gnome/lib/pango/1.4.0/modules/pango-hangul-fc.so HangulScriptEngineFc PangoEngineShape PangoRenderFc hangul:* /opt/gnome/lib/pango/1.4.0/modules/pango-hebrew-fc.so HebrewScriptEngineFc PangoEngineShape PangoRenderFc hebrew:* /opt/gnome/lib/pango/1.4.0/modules/pango-indic-fc.so devaScriptEngineFc PangoEngineShape PangoRenderFc devanagari:* /opt/gnome/lib/pango/1.4.0/modules/pango-indic-fc.so bengScriptEngineFc PangoEngineShape PangoRenderFc bengali:* /opt/gnome/lib/pango/1.4.0/modules/pango-indic-fc.so guruScriptEngineFc PangoEngineShape PangoRenderFc gurmukhi:* /opt/gnome/lib/pango/1.4.0/modules/pango-indic-fc.so gujrScriptEngineFc PangoEngineShape PangoRenderFc gujarati:* /opt/gnome/lib/pango/1.4.0/modules/pango-indic-fc.so oryaScriptEngineFc PangoEngineShape PangoRenderFc oriya:* /opt/gnome/lib/pango/1.4.0/modules/pango-indic-fc.so tamlScriptEngineFc PangoEngineShape PangoRenderFc tamil:* /opt/gnome/lib/pango/1.4.0/modules/pango-indic-fc.so teluScriptEngineFc PangoEngineShape PangoRenderFc telugu:* /opt/gnome/lib/pango/1.4.0/modules/pango-indic-fc.so kndaScriptEngineFc PangoEngineShape PangoRenderFc kannada:* /opt/gnome/lib/pango/1.4.0/modules/pango-indic-fc.so mlymScriptEngineFc PangoEngineShape PangoRenderFc malayalam:* /opt/gnome/lib/pango/1.4.0/modules/pango-indic-fc.so sinhScriptEngineFc PangoEngineShape PangoRenderFc sinhala:* /opt/gnome/lib/pango/1.4.0/modules/pango-syriac-fc.so SyriacScriptEngineFc PangoEngineShape PangoRenderFc syriac:* /opt/gnome/lib/pango/1.4.0/modules/pango-thai-fc.so ThaiScriptEngineFc PangoEngineShape PangoRenderFc thai:* lao:* /opt/gnome/lib/pango/1.4.0/modules/pango-tibetan-fc.so TibetanScriptEngineFc PangoEngineShape PangoRenderFc tibetan:* proj/firefox-installer> (but retrying the install got the same error); ----------- I would submit a compressed copy of the core file, but there doesn't seem to be a way to submit an attachment during the bug submission process. ;-( Linda
