I a running Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10)
Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6.  Last night I was on Yahoo Sports looking at live
updates of a Nascar race, when I just got the hour glass and it stopped
responding. I clicked on the X to shutdown the window and it closed with no
problem, when I restarted Firefox it went to the FireFox start page which I had
changed to panthers.com and my toolbars are gone too.  I only have the Getting
Started button and Latest Headlines button. My Yahoo buttons are gone as well as
my like this site and don't like this site toolbar, I can't remember what that
toolbar was called. Then I looked at my bookmarks and all the ones that I added
are gone all the default ones that come with Firefox are there.  It is almost
like it is a new install.  I did reboot but that had know effect on the problem.

Sounds like a dupe of bug 193749, although it's possible that you're just using
a different profile now. Do following the steps here solve this, or is
bookmarks.html totally overwritten/gone?

It is gone.  I ran a virus scan and it found none. I did another import because
I was using IE but was having so many problems with it. I reset my home page to
what it was before this happened, but my toolbars are still not showing up. I
stand corrected, earlier I did a search on bookmark.html which of course was
wrong because I forgot to make it plural. I just got through with another search
with the right syntax and it found three of the bookmarks.html.  Two of these
are from August 18th one is 16k and the other is 64k and the other is from
yesterday and it is 48k.

This definitely looks like you just switched profile. In any case, it is
actually a support question, and not the kind of bug report that can lead to a
fix in the program. We already have quite a lot of such non-specific bug
reports. Marking this invalid - not specific enough info, but it could be duped
to one of the other similar bugs.

As for the bookmarks.html you found, I believe the 16k is the default bookmarks
file in the application folder, the 48k is the newly-imported one, and the 64k
is your old one. If I'm right, you can get everything back just by switching the
profile back, as described on the page that Adam posted.
