(Whiteboard: [CLOSEME 2010-11-01])

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050903 Firefox/1.0+
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050903 Firefox/1.0+

In previous versions of firefox (1.0.x) the web page was able to detect java
fine and continue loading the page.
With the current build of firefox (20050903) the detection does not work anymore
and I need to choose java manually.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to http://www.nl.map24.com
2. In "zoek adres" in the field "postcode" enter, "2133BJ"
3. Click "> Verder"

appears. Which means something like that it is detecting for JAVA on your
system. And that the test can be skipped. Also there is an option to skip
detection which requires cookies. The test will take 30 seconds.

Then the message "Java detectie fout gegaan:

Er kon geen JAVA virtuele machine worden herkend.

Dit kan zijn omdat u geen Java virtual machine heeft geinstalleerd op uw systeem
of dat JAVA niet kon worden gevonden binnen de gestelde tijd.

Wat wilt u nu doen? "

appears. Which means that JAVA could not be found within the 30 seconds timeout.

At this point one can choose "Ik heb JAVA geinstalleerd en wil naar de
interactieve kaart gaan" to force the use of JAVA eventhough it could not be
detected and everything works fine.
Actual Results:
Only after choosing manually "Ik heb JAVA geinstalleerd en wil naar de
interactieve kaart gaan" the page with the java map loads.

Expected Results:
Java should have been detected and immediatly go to the java map page. Skipping
the manual step for choosing java. This used to work fine in firefox 1.0.x.
A similar problem arises with the English language map24.com site.
It's caused by the fact that map24.com doesn't realize that higher
versions of Java than 1.3.1 are (potentially) available on OS X for
Mozilla-family browsers. But there's an easy workaround (I use the
English language version to illustrate it, since I don't know Dutch):

1. Go to http://www.us.map24.com/, scroll down the left-hand side of
the page, and click on the symbol for "Europe", "North America",
   "Brazil" or "Middle East".

2. On the right-hand side of the page a "Java Detection" box will
appear, with two buttons -- "static" and "interactive". Click on
"interactive" -- this will take you to the Java "interactive" map.

3. If you haven't chosen either "static" or "interactive" inside of 30
seconds, a different set of choices will appear:

   * Switch to the static map (no Java required).
   * I have Java installed and want to switch to the interactive map.
   * Download the current Java Virtual Machine.

Choose the second alternative -- this will take you to the Java
   "interactive" map.

The reason map24.com's behavior has changed is that recent Firefox
nightlies (and also Camino and SeaMonkey nightlies) have started
bunding a copy of the Java Embedding Plugin, which allows other
browsers than Safari to use more recent versions of Java. The Java
Embedding Plugin is also available as a separate download:

http://javaplugin.sourceforge.net/

The people who run map24.com need to change their site to
automatically recognize Mozilla-family browsers that are using Java
1.4.X or 1.5.0 (also known as J2SE 5.0).

This is a mass search for bugs that are in the Firefox General component, are UNCO, and have not been changed for 1000 days and have an unspecified version.

Reporter, can you please update to Firefox 3.6.10, create a fresh profile, http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/managing+profiles, and test again. If you still see the bug, please update this bug. If the issue is gone, please set the resolution to RESOLVED > WORKSFORME.

Seems to work now, allthough I can't test on powerpc anymore. Now tested on intel platform (still OS X)
