Summary: α displayed as a → α displayed as "a" when using verdana font
The Verdana alpha looks a lot like an a to me - is this the problem?

It looks like the a in some other fonts, but not like the a in Verdana itself, e.g. in "usability" and "features" in the testcase.

Heh, fwiw, I blinked a couple of times myself when I wrote the entry, but that's just Verdana's crappy alpha :)
