User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6

I manage a small website (see above url) where I make available a couple of
small files for downloading in Win Zip self-extracting format. It was reported
to me that the file - Colorado LakeFinder4.exe - was not extracting properly
when downloaded with Firefox.

I was able to reproduce the problem on my PC when using Firefox 1.0.6.
I was NOT able to reproduce the problem when using Mozilla 1.7.11 or
IE Explorer 6 or Netscape 7.2.

The problem seems to be extra bytes (appx. 1500) added to the file. The file
looses its association to Win Zip and double clicking does not extract the
contents.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Using Firefox, point to http://home.comcast.net/~a1anma1k/ and scroll
to the bottom and click on "Windows version, here". The file should download.

2. Observe the file size. It should be 429,980 bytes. ( I see 431,490 )
Observe the icon - it should be a Win Zip icon.

3. Double click on the file. It should extract to C:\LakeFinder. I only
get a command window that opens and closes quickly.

Actual Results:
Incorrect file size and missing association (generic icon instead of Win Zip).

Expected Results:
2. Observe the file size. It should be 429,980 bytes. ( I see 431,490 )
Observe the icon - it should be a Win Zip icon.

3. Double click on the file. It should extract to C:\LakeFinder. I only
get a command window that opens and closes quickly.

This is bug seems similar to 305062 and possibly 291748.

My OS build is 2195, Service Pack 4, security updates thru August '05.

Reported to me by a Firefox user running XP Professional.

I was able to reproduce the problem in "safe mode".
WFM. The file I downloaded was 429982 bytes long, but thats the size that the
server reports that the file is. Could extract just fine.

WFM Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20050903
Firefox/1.6a1. File is 429,980 bytes and extracts fine.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20050906
Firefox/1.6a1

No problems using the nightly build. File appears 100% OK.

What does that imply is the problem with Firefox 1.0.6?
Was something fixed recently?

WFM per comment 1, 2, 3. Please reopen the bug if you see this problem with FF2 or newer versions
