It would be nice if Thunderbird offered a log over incoming messages. I have 5
imap-accounts with server side filtering and between 10 and 20 folders on each
server. Sometimes it is very difficult to find where a new mail arrived when I
get the new mail notification. A log window would resolve this problem.
Typically it would contain something like this
New message
time/date: 14.23 2005-09-05 (this is ISO-date format)
sender: abc@def.tld
receiver: 123@456.tld or [empty] if it is only bcc:ed
subject: This is a test of the new log in Thunderbird
Account: IMAP3
Mailbox: IMAP3.inbox.bugzilla
Size: 12kB
This would probably be enough to identify the message and also be able to make a
decision about whether it is important or not.
Reproducible: Always
While waiting for this to hopefully be implemented, would it be possible to add
this functionality through an extension?

Have a look at how Eudora implemented its log. I think it works reasonably well,
and it also has a feature "log all transferred bytes" which is useful when you
want to debug something or just are curious on some protocol details of
POP/IMAP/SMTP.
It also offers to log to disk which works fine without any noticable performance
hit, not even back in 1994.
