User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050908 Firefox/1.4
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050908 Firefox/1.4

I have been following the Firefox/Deer Park branch for a long time now, and
decided to try the updater. After maybe 4-10 updates, it was finally done and
couldn't find any more today. This is after running I think a 9/5 or 9/6/2005
branch for a while for extension compatibility. I found the extension which
allows one to override the disabling of extensions so I could use all my
extensions and also saw that the continuous checking for compatibility was fixed
(this is something which plagued me).

Anyhow, I went to check the "Add/Remove Programs" control panel in WinXP Pro,
and it still lists Deer Park!

Shouldn't it now list Firefox Beta 1?

Furthermore, and unrelated to this bug, the compatibility checker is still hung up.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to Add/Remove Programs control panel.
2. View Deer Park Alpha 2 1.0+ in there.
3.

Actual Results:
It's there.

Expected Results:
It shouldn't be there, but Firefox Beta should be.
I can confirm this bug; Deer Park was still listed in Add/Remove Programs and I
had to uninstall it manually. I can also confirm that the compatibility check
hung and that I eventually had to cancel out of it. I had been using the Deer
Park release from August 16th.

Darin, this is something we weren't planning on fixing, right?

Is this a regression of Bugzilla Bug 247884 Upgrading doesn't remove / uninstall
the old entry from Add Remove Programs - Windows?
worcester, no
I don't understand why the installer for Firefox should touch anything deer
park. They're different apps installed to different directories, right?
Asa, per the original bug report this is about the updater, not installer.
Summary: Installer doesn't remove the "Deer Park" on WinXP add/remove programs and replace with Firefox beta → Updater doesn't remove the "Deer Park" on WinXP add/remove programs and replace with Firefox beta

I filed under installer because it hits (or misses, as it were) the Add/Remove
Programs box and I was wondering whether or not that should be the case. If this
is going to be treated as a separate program from Firefox (Beta 1), then so be
it, I can uninstall and reinstall from a new download, no big deal. That seems
inconsistent with a lot of other goings on as regards updates, installs, etc.
but no biggie. Will Deer Park cease to exist once Beta 1 is out? If this should
be filed under the updated component, please change if necessary. Thanks.
I assume that we don't have any significant numbers of deer park nightly or
alpha users and that Firefox 1.5 will install to the 1.0.x directory and
completely ignore anything labeled as "Deer Park". Updates from 1.5 to 1.5.x or
greater will not have this problem.

If I'm wrong, then please re-nominate this.

If that is correct, you might as well go all the way and mark this as INVALID.
It is not a bug, just a mistake on my part.
This sucks. I wrote the code for this, but it just wasn't included in the
build. See bug 307459.

Hey, glad to have helped. The doc says beta blockers are good for me. ;-)

Thanks guys!
