Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050908 Firefox/1.4
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050908 Firefox/1.4

When "Begin finding as you begin typing" is enabled and more than one Firefox
window is open, it is no longer possible to type text into a html form field.
Typing anything, even when focussing a form field will make Firefox search the
html page.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
0. Enable "Begin finding as you begin typing" and close all existing Firefox
windows.
1. Open a window (I use the Quicklaunch button). In my setup, this loads a blank
page. Open a site, say http://www.mozilla.org/
2. Open a second window by clicking on the Quicklaunch button again. In this
window, open up a site with a form field. I use my phpmyadmin:
https://services.narfum.org/phpmyadmin/
3. In this second window, click on a form field and try to enter some text in a
field.
Actual Results:
Firefox is trying to search on the current webpage for the text input via the
keyboard.

Expected Results:
The keyboard text should appear in the form window, as this has the current focus.

When I first installed Firefox 1.5 beta1, I had the same problem in GMail when
trying to type a reply to a mail. After closing Firefox and trying again, the
error does not reproduce.
Version: unspecified → 1.5 Branch
Steps to reproduce:
1. Set FF's startpage to: http://www.google.com/firefox and enable "find as you
type"
2. Open FF new window from taskbar
3. Type "adv".

Result:
Though the search box indicates that it has focus (cursor blinking), "find as
you type" is activated.

Additional note:
The following seemed intresting. Run step 1, 2 and 3 as mentioned above. Then
4. Alt-tab to another window app.
5. Alt-tab back to the window in question.
6. Mouse click the search input field to give it focus.

Now the you can type in the input field!? ... more wierdness:
7. Mouse click in the white area of the page, so that the input field looses focus.
8. Type "adv"

Result: "find as you type" as activated, but only "a" occurs in the FF search
textbox - and nothing on the page is highlighted.
