dria gave me an example of a broken link:
http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Sandbox

it's not honoring my preference,
i went to:
http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Special:Preferences#prefsection-8
and (select misc if mediawiki doesn't do the right thing...)
and unchecked the [ ] Format broken links like this (alternative: like this?).
option.
then i went to
http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Sandbox

and verified that it was still not showing the link as the alternative implied.

filing as new because dria told me to (otherwise i'd file as unconfirmed)
ie6sp2 wXPsp2
this works in
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050906 Firefox/1.4

so it must be using some gecko feature that ie doesn't recognize.
