Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322) Build Identifier: Problem is with tar file: mozilla1.7.11-sparc-sun-solaris2.10-gtk2+xft.tar I downloaded and bunzip2ed the file, getting the tar file. Then I used tar tvf *.tar mozilla/README.txt to get the README. The README only refers to installation for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Since the build is for Solaris Sparc, I lack the needed instructions. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Download. 2. Use bunzip2. 3. Extract the README.txt. 4. Search for "Solaris" or "Sun. Doesn't exist in the file. Actual Results: Because I lacked the installation instructions, I stopped. While I probably could have adapted the Linux instructions, I'm reluctant to do so on my sole Sun machine, since it's a production box that runs our workforce management software. I'd rather see instructions specific to Solaris. I need Mozilla because a third-party package requires it, but am concerned that a build with a problem like this might have other problems as well, and don't want to go ahead until the tarball contents look right. Expected Results: The README.txt for a Sparc Solaris tarball should include instructions for installing on the gear for which it was built. Here's the version I downloaded: mozilla1.7.11-sparc-sun-solaris2.10-gtk2+xft.tar (except that it was zipped; the name ended with ".bz2").

Well, I suppose I've found the problem with open-source software: no support if the problem isn't glamorous enough to be interesting. I opened this bug 17 days ago and it's still waiting for triage.

I'm not sure what you were expecting... the linux instructions should work fine for Solaris. There's also a readme file on the ftp site with the tarball: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.7.11/contrib/mozilla1.7.11-i386-pc-solaris2.10-gtk2+xft.readme and the fact that it's in contrib means that it's not an official release from .mozilla.org and you should look to the contributor for support (which the readme says is leon.sha@sun.com). resolving INVALID
