User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050908 Firefox/1.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050908 Firefox/1.4 Just upgraded from Firefox 1.0.x to Beta 1.5. Using the Search button extension or just clicking on the search field and then pressing enter USED to take you to the search site selected, even if the search field was blank. (This is pretty handy for just going to google or amazon or ebay. For example, with Google as the selected engine, clicking "Search" used to take you to the Google site, and then you could click on "News"). Now something MUST be keyed in the field before the click on the "Search" button, or the Enter key have an action. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Click on the search field (make sure it is blank to begin with) 2. Press Enter or click on the Search button if using the extension 3. You don't go anywhere Actual Results: No action takes place Expected Results: You should go to the search site selected, even if you typed nothing.

This is not happening for me, it reacts the same way as before on Firefox 1.5 Beta1. In my opinion the search mechanism should stay this way. Could you supply more info as to when this is happening?

There is no real "when" condition. Do you have the "Search Button" extension applied, and also, is your search field empty? (Apparently there is a bug where it does not clear properly.)

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20050909 Firefox/1.6a1 ID:2005090916 This works for me. Leaving the input blank and pressing enter goes to the URL of the search engine. Also, Bugzilla is not the place to report problems with other extensions. Feel free to reopen this if you can reproduce in a clean profile with no extensions installed.

After some trial and error and uninstalling, this problem is directly related to the search button extension. Sorry for filing this one here. But thanks for the feedback and help.
