User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050225 Firefox/1.0.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050225 Firefox/1.0.1

Click anywhere within the rendered page of any theage.com.au page (after signing
up with bugmenot.com if necessary), and an enormous popup window is created.

This is despite settings like browser.tabs.opentabfor.windowopen,
browser.block.target_new_window, etc being set to true.

Shouldn't all windows created by javacript end up as new tabs at least, if the
appropriate setting is set?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Turn on popup blocking. For fun, also turn on the settings that open
windows as new tabs
1. Go to URL (register if necessary)
2. Clicky mousy on something that's not a HREF
3. Curse
Actual Results:
I cursed because the popup took a good deal of realestate from my screen. It
also pops up again if I close the popup, and click anywhere on the page again.
This affects me using focus-follows-mouse on Linux, and I imagine it sucks even
worse for those using click-to-focus, because they have to click on the browser
somewhere to get it focused.

Expected Results:
At the very least, the popup should have been opened in another tab, since I
have all those tab settings set to true. The best outcome would be for it to
magically work out it is still a popup, and blocked it accordingly.
V. old version of FF! Could you try with 1.5beta1, as the popup blocker is much
improved. On Windows, this is WFM in 1.5beta1. If you can reproduce, consider
adding to bug 253831, which tracks sites that bypass the popup blocker.

Er yep, sorry. It is also behaving this way in 1.0.6 though, which is in debian
sid. I shall see if I can attempt to install the upstream version.

Thanks for the bug number...
I don't get any popups on Windows Firefox 1.5 Beta 1
Seems like the reason is the old version you are running.
OK, I can confirm it blocks correctly on 1.5beta. Unfortunately, it is still a
beta which I can't afford to use, so this bug is not yet ready to be closed
until the fixes get propogated back into a mainline version.
I think this is invalid, as it works with a current build. Although 1.0.6 is
the release version, the bug is clearly sorted out as far as the code-base goes.
WFM on Trunk, so resolving. FF 1.0.x branch gets only security and stability
fixes. So you have to wait until 1.5 final comes out, sorry.
