User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6

When creating a new e-mail account and setting it to use SSL (I have only tried
this with IMAP, not POP3) the little padlock that should display in the left
hand folders frame on-top of the icon just next to the +/- sign is not showing.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a new account via the New Account wizard
2. Edit the preferences and set to check mail via SSL
3. Return to the main Thunderbird window and check to see if the padlock is shown
4. Restart Thunderbird - The padlock should now show
Actual Results:
After returning to the main Thunderbird window the padlock should not show
(a.k.a. the account icon should show just like any other ordinary account icon
with no SSL connection).

Expected Results:
The padlock should show the first time when the account is first created.
Which version of TB is this bug reported against?

I am using version 1.5 Beta 1 (20050908) - Downloaded the offical build from the
Mozilla website on the 10th of September:
http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/releases/1.5beta1.html
Version: unspecified → 1.5
Might be worthwhile to make it more visible too (maybe a good solid green?); I hadn't even noticed the feature until I accidentally stumbled across this bug while searching for reports about another problem...

This behavior is still present in Thunderbird 2.0.0.14 (Windows XP Pro SP3), with both POP3 and IMAP.

Also, on an account which does show the padlock, changing "Use secure connection" to "Never" in the account's Server Settings does not remove the padlock until reboot.

As a side note, when I add a Gmail account via "Gmail" in the New Account Setup, the padlock appears as soon as the account setup is finished. Thus, Thunderbird shows the padlock immediately for an account that is preconfigured to be SSL. Now we just need the padlock to immediately respond to security changes made in the account Server Settings.

Dan, can you reproduce this using latest beta or trunk build.
It works for me with a standard imap account without a thunderbird restart - took a few seconds to appear.
