Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4

Tried to install 1.0.6 over my 1.0.4 (at your insistence!);
After eintirely eliminating my 1.0.4 installation (bugger!) the installer
gave an error message, something about -214 not being found.

The User Forum has similar reports, but the only suggestion was to delete the
files in Windows' Temp folder, which did not help as I still got the same error
message the second time I tried.

BTW, all I wanted to do was to install an extension, but found that someone in
their infinite wisdom decided to not permit it until after I installed the
latest release. Now, I can't even use Firefox at all! Wouldn't it have been
kinder and more user friendly to relate old Extension versions to the versions
of FF that they'd work with--and permit access? Maybe I didn't really want to
be bothered with waiting on a full half-hour upgrade download, not to mention
the days(!) delay in trying to correct the mess someone's installer has made of
my system. BTW2, the previous 1.0.4 installer worked like a charm!

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Download 1.0.6
2. Run the installer
3. fuss & fume & cry! (curse?)

Actual Results:
see comments

Expected Results:
acted as the 1.0.4 installer did!
We need the full message, i.e. the missing file.

WHAT missing file? To be more precise, having gone back to the forums to get
the exact wording of the error message: "-214 DOES_NOT_EXIST". I don't know
(and apparently no one else knows) if -214 is a file, a token, or what. The
message is generated by the installer, so I reckon the build files should
contain the message and point to what it is the installer wants. I'm not a
developer though, so...
This isn't a problem with the NSIS installer implemented for Firefox 2.0 and
1.0.x is no longer supported. Resolving -> WFM
