User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win 9x 4.90; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win 9x 4.90; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6 I just installed the free firefox 1.0.6 version to try out, because I am getting sick of IE and it's security related problems. While trying out the newly installed firefox version 1.0.6, multiple versions of mozilla's home page get randomly displayed in new windows. As I write this, I have 3 other separate open windows at mozilla.org. Closing any one of these (a 4th window just opened as I type this) closes all windows and if I do that, I will lose this current window that I am typing on. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.double click firefox icon on desktop 2. proceed to browse or work on current window of firefox 3. notice multiple windows of firefox being spawned randomly with passage of time Actual Results: I currently have 5 spawned processes running mozilla, firefox in separate windows. Expected Results: give me control of opening as many windows as I want. It's like the annoying pop up ads problem. Could I be experiencing a spyware (advertisements) problem?

Sounds like it (spy/malware). Can you set IE as default browser and run Firefox and see it it still happens ?

I swear I remember a very similar post on mozillazine forums a while back on this same problem and it turned out it was due to a particular software which was starting up Firefox every so often instead of say IE, because Firefox was the poster's default browser.
