Would it be possible to have some more information in the updater-panel, or in
the window that is now used for 'show update history' ?

- current channel in use (nightly/beta/release/...)
- last update check (status ?)
- next update planned
- which update-url is used, if bug 307864 is implemented (local mirror).
- ...

This would be useful even if bug 307864 isn't implemented.

Would be great to have access to this info even just for debugging software
update.  Good suggestion!

I was thinking smtg more or less like the Software Update Panel on Mac OS X
10.2.8, if you would like to see an example.
