When right clicking on an bookmark item (a folder or a bookmark), a context menu
shows up allowing one to manage the given item, or in other words, the item's
properties and its contents. In the case of a folder, one can edit its
properties, open its contents on tabs, add an item to its contents, etc.
However, contrary to the expected behaviour, the option "Sort by name" does not
sort the contents of the folder. Instead, it unintuitively applies the sorting
procedure to the items at the same level as the folder.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Right click on a folder from the bookmarks and select "Sort By Name"
Actual Results:
The bookmarks and folders on the same tree level as the used folder are sorted.

Expected Results:
The contents of the folder should be sorted.
Sounds like the opposite of Bug 258692.
Related to bug 281272 comment 8?
kind of a dupe I guess

This being mentioned in bug 281272 does not make this a dup of bug 281272.

This bug is the opposite of bug 258692.
Summary: "Sort By Name" bookmarks context menu affects a folder's sibblings instead of its children → "Sort By Name" bookmarks context menu affects a folder's siblings instead of its children
Blocks: 308350
This seemed to be the general consensus in bug 258692, but wasn't implemented in
the fix for that bug.
At least the new "places" behavior of changing the menus to read "Sort <folder> by name" alerts the observant user to what will happen -- if only it happened.
Version: unspecified → 1.5.0.x Branch
It SHOULD sort siblings not children, as this is a far more sensible behaviour. Having to open up the bookmarks organiser just to sort them is ridiculous.
In Firefox 3 the "Sort By Name" appears only on folders and works on their contents.
