I'm not sure how possible this is, but after reading bug 218308 comment 23 I decided to file this bug. I was mostly hit by this problem when loading a dojo toolkit example (http://archive.dojotoolkit.org/nightly/tests/animation/test_animation.html) which hung the browser completely until it finished loading. Both IE6/Firefox 1.5 hang while the page loads, while Opera8 is responsive (so you can easily switch tabs).
