User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6 This is a rather odd issue. I will be browsing along, minding my own business, then I call it a night and close down all browser windows. When I get to that last window and click the X, my computer screen goes blank and then I am looking at the startup sequence. So it causes my system to crash and then reboot. So when the computer is back up, I bring up Firefox and all my bookmarks are gone, my theme is gone, and the browswer buttons are reset (as I added in a button to open up a new tab). What's going on? And more importantly, how can I fix this? Is this just a problem with version 1.0.6? (as I had this problem before I reformatted my computer too) And one last thing, sometimes I click on the icon to bring up Firefox and it takes a long time to load the program. Thanks for your help. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1.open browser 2.browse internet 3.close all browser windows Actual Results: Problem reproduces, but not always. Expected Results: Close normally Theme is FirefoxModer 1.1.2.20050429 System info: mobo: ABIT AV8 Proc: Athlon 64 3500+ RAM: PC3200 1 GB dual channel HDs: Windows drive - Maxtor Diamondmax10 200GB, others - WD 200 and 120 GB VGA: BFG Geforce 6800 GT OC build config: Build platform target i586-pc-msvc Build tools Compiler Version Compiler flags $(CYGWIN_WRAPPER) cl 12.00.8804 -TC -nologo -W3 -nologo -Gy -Fd$(PDBFILE) $(CYGWIN_WRAPPER) cl 12.00.8804 -TP -nologo -W3 -nologo -Gy -Fd$(PDBFILE) Configure arguments --disable-ldap --disable-mailnews --enable-extensions=cookie,xml-rpc,xmlextras,pref,transformiix,universalchardet,webservices,inspector,gnomevfs,negotiateauth --enable-crypto --disable-composer --enable-single-profile --disable-profilesharing --enable-optimize --disable-debug --disable-tests --enable-static --disable-shared --enable-official-branding
I have had this behaviour occur at least three (3) times now, the most recent time last night. System information: Windows XP with SP 2 Intel 2.8 GHz P4 with HT (on a Dell system) 1 GB RAM PNY GeForce 6800 Ultra (256MB) with Nvidia Driver ForceWare 78.01 (older driver set on pre-October crash) Firefox version 1.5 (I have had the same crash on both 1.0.5 and 1.0.7) On most recent crash I was using the Theme Noia 2.0, but I did not have it installed for at least one (1) previous such crash. Unable to submit talkback report since it doesn't have time to execute. Possibly related issue: In rebuilding my Options/ Bookmarks, I'm having trouble getting Firefox to save Preferences. I have confirmed that all appropriate files are not Read Only flagged. Options which won't save are: 1. Use small icons in Toolbar. 2. Do not show Bookmark Bar. 3. Maximise window (I can get around this by changing the properties of the windows shortcut, but this is a workaround, not a solution. 4. Personalised settings in Toolbar (remove Home button, add Mail button). 5. Full screen mode.

(In reply to comment #2) Apologies for the double submission. In an attempt to track down/ head off this bug, I am updating my video drivers, JRE, and shall uninstall and reinstall Firefox. I have, however, noticed another odd system behaviour since the above mentioned crash. Apparently all application settings in Sygate Personal Firewall have been cleared. I'm not sure if this was due directly to the Firefox crash, if a SPF crash caused Firefox to go, or if both behaviours are linked to some as yet unknown system problem. Neither msconfig nor Process Explorer are showing anything out of the ordinary, so it doesn't seem to be process related. I've also poked around with HijackThis, and while I can't find anything that's obviously a problem, I don't have a lot of experience with that tool as yet.
this has happened to me about half a dozen time (at least), it's annoying. Usually it happens if the computer is using a lot of memory or very busy but can happen any time really. I can't add bookmarks now. WIN XP SP2 / 2.6GHz / 1.5GB / firefox 2.0 (never happened before this install)
I think there are at least two separate reports here. The first is that closing Firefox crashes Windows. The second is that bookmarks and preferences are lost when Windows crashes. I believe the second issue is covered by bug 193749. Reporter, regarding the report that closing Firefox causes Windows to reboot, are you still seeing this problem with the latest release of Firefox when using a clean profile? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager
Whiteboard: CLOSEME - 06/29
Closing as INCOMPLETE due to lack of information. I haven't had any issues with Windows rebooting using Firefox 2.0.0.6 or any of the Firefox 2 releases. If you can still reproduce this and can provide more information, please comment here. Additionally, if you're experiencing bookmark and preferences loss, please see bug 193749, which is where such problems are covered.
