illegal plugin box with plugin started in background
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050908 Firefox/1.4 Build Identifier: 1.5 Beta 1 (20050913) http://www.rtbf.be/media/radio/podcast/xml/PU.xml --> this stream is a podcast feed ... Since a week or 2 (i've try with some different nighlies of TB branch build), the post of this podcast feed cause an error: TB try to open the podcasting mp3 attachement with the plugin quicktime 6.5 (why ??? i don't know) And i receive a message box showing: "Illegal Operation in Plug-in" --> this string is the title of the box "Quicktime Plug-in 6.5.1 The plug-in performed an illegal operation. You are strongly advised to restart Thunderbird" By clicking OK, the plugin load the mp3 to play it ... (But it is stupid, as if i select an another mail/post, the stream end ... so, usually, i open podcast field with an external player) Reproducible: Always

More information and reproducible way to crash TB: See Talkback http://talkback-public.mozilla.org/talkback/fastfind.jsp?search=2&type=iid&id=TB9373769E --> when you watch a post, after 2 seconds, you've got the message box saying "Illegal Operation in Plug-in" --> click OK The quicktime plugin load all the mp3 post (the status bar of quicktime plugin is growing and go to 100%) After the podcast is loaded, press play on the button play of the quicktime plugin --> TB crash

Hi, I am using Thunderbird 1.6alpha1 and i have exacly same problem , media feed is http://www.curry.com/xml/rss.xml. It should allow you to download and save mp3 file so that you can transfer to your mp3 player on Pc neroshow, windows media player 10 or trasfer to mp3 hardware ie Nokia 7610 Mobile . I will be waiting for patch or new build

Hi, UPDATE I have installed Thunderbird 1.0.6 over 1.6a1(20050918) to test all works fine and when i click on podcast it allows me to download and save mp3. there the problem is not with the feed but possible with the data type files in ver 1.5b1 , 1.6a1 . If you use the same setup you will see problem , my setup is: windows XP Pro SP2 , Thunderbird and media http://www.curry.com/xml/rss.xml the feed has a cleen rss declaration there fore it should not cause any problems in new versions. Hope this helps

with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041206 Thunderbird/1.0 Mnenhy/0.7 ID:2005091806 (nighly 1.5b1 ... strange thant TB version is 1.0 in user agent and not 1.4 ...) it is the same ... This podcasting feed is really unusable ... it crash always my tb ... I think it is a blocker for 1.8b5

what is strange is that in my d:\program files\mozilla thunderbird\plugins directory, i have only nppl3260.dll nprjplug.dll nprpjplug.dll (this is real player) ... not quicktime ... One month ago there was no automatic plugin launch ... just the mp3 in attach ... (but maybe the podcast feed was different) My firefox plugin directory contains the quicktimes plugin dll's ... is it possible that Thunderbird use firefox plugins to render the feed???

I am unable to reproduce this with: http://www.rtbf.be/media/radio/podcast/xml/PU.xml I view the RSS item and it shows an MP3 enclosure as an attachment. I double click the MP3 and we save it to disk and then hand that file off to iTunes. By default thunderbird doesn't enable plugins in the message pane so I'm not sure how viewing the message would cause you to have a plugin get loaded.

use about:config, set boolpref plugin.expose_full_path true load about:plugins copy and paste the content of that page here. (unset the pref when you're done)

Here is the result for firefox ...
i've set plugin.expose_full_path true in both thunderbird and firefox ...
but this about:plugins is only for firefox ...
If it exists the same for thunderbird, please tell me how to do because i don't
know how to show that :-)

in fact, the mp3 file type is handled with winamp ... but winamp has no plugin for browser ... so i guess that mp3 files are played with quicktime plugin even if plugin has not the mime setting to play it. I've check the setting download action of thunderbird, but there is nothing for mp3 ... But, in firefox i've an mp3 audio/mpeg download action set: mp3 winamp file, but opened with quicktime plugin (see screen shot) i will try to play with it to see if i can solve the problem

Added MP3 in download action of Thunderbird MP3 --> MP3 Format Sound --> Open with winamp This work when i click to the attachment, but the quicktime plugin is yet launched with the same error Trying to change firefox download action for MP3 (audio/mpeg, audio/x-mpeg, audio/mp3) --> open in winamp instead of open in quicktime plugin Restart of ff and tb --> same problem: the mp3 is open with the quicktime plugin in TB ... but now when i try to open http://www.rtbf.be/media/radio/podcast/sound/F1005855.mp3 in FF, it launch automatically winamp and no the quicktime plugin as before ... So it seems that TB is not taking the setting in firefox profile ... I remember i have also a Mozilla suite installed on my computer ... Hi All, Bad New , Fix not working it disables quicktime notice but it also disable the correct notice requesting action ie save mp3 to hard drive or open file using xyz ( windows media or neroshow ). As advise i have upgraded JRE to JRE5 upgrade4 which i believe to be latest . Please advise especially if others have the same enviroment and test case. Windows XP Pro SP2 , Tbird 1.6a1 and Adam Curry podcast . My expected action is a notice box that allows me to open and or save. Thanks All

Yes Scott ... it seems the bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=289126 resolve my problem (In reply to comment #28) Hello ... I've try the adam curry's podcast and it works well now I've 1.5b2 My JRE is Version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_04-b05) and windows XP2 my pluginreg.dat contains a call to quicktime plugin for audio/mpeg when i open a post, i've automatically the notice box that allows me to open and or save... idem when i double-click on the attachement

Hi, Thanks for your swift response , please can someone paste the link for JRE 1.5.0 ( build 1.5.0_04-b05) just incase my JRE plugin has BUGS & please Thunderbird nightly 1.5 beta 2 , i can only find 1.6a1 . If i can create exactly same enviroment as Jean-Michel Reghem i might win . Thanx

for JRE, i don't know ... but for TB 1.5 beta 2 ... it is not really the official 1.5 beta 2 because it is not yet released ... but since sunday, the nightlies builds of TB has number 1.4.1 and about show 1.5 beta 2 ... --> download a nighly build on the 1.8 branch here: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/2005-10-03-09-mozilla1.8/

Hi All EUREKA , It work i just downloaded nightly 1.8 trunk filename thunderbird 1.4.1.en US.win32 installer which really is 1.5beta2 . The correct windows open and correct players . i am grtefull and joyous . Java Runtime Envirement Ver 1.5.0 is version 5 update 4 , dont ask why its same as 1.8 being 1,5b2. Thanks everyone especially Jean .
