User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050915 Firefox/1.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041206 Thunderbird/1.0 Mnenhy/0.7 ID:2005091407 I put this bug here, since there is no "software update" component for TB There is an auto update problem with 20050914 version ... (TB 1.5 beta 1) I choose "check update" and TB download a partial patch of 558ko TB restart to apply the patch, and then i got the message: The partial update could not be applied. Thunderbird will try again by downloading a complete Update. --> click next, and TB download a 7.3Mb package --> restard ... but it stay 20050914 and check update do exactly the same in infinite loop: downloading a little patch of 558 k, then error, then download of 7.3Mb then always 20050914 etc ... I think the only solution is to download the 20050915 nightly PS:app.update.url is https://aus2.mozilla.org/update/0/%PRODUCT%/%VERSION%/%BUILD_ID%/%BUILD_TARGET%/%LOCALE%/update.xml and app.update.channel is nightly Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Get the nightly 1.8 branch 20050914 2.Check for update Actual Results: The partial update could not be applied. Thunderbird will try again by downloading a complete Update. --> then the complete update is downloaded and installed, but it always stay at version 20050914 Expected Results: If the partial update failed and the complete update is installed, the TB installed should be 20050915

more info : This is strange ... i've got the dialog box automatically asking if i wanted an update And the update has worked this time (little patch and i'm now in 20050915) So, is there a different mechanism/url or other between updating by "help--> check for update" (manual mode) and the automatic update which come one time by day?

no, this is not the same bug ... here, i'm in a DOMAIN configuration, not workgroup, so user switch is not possible with XP.
I have the same problems - sometimes. This was happening for me before, then it got better - for a few days I was able to update TB without problems and then on Sep 15 the problem occured again. I ran update for several times, but the version didn't change. I had to manually download the latest nightly and install it. We'll see tommorrow if the problem is still there.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b5) Gecko/20051004 Thunderbird/1.4.1 ID:2005100406 Is what I get when I use the Nightly Tester Tools extension, but the "About Mozilla Thunderbird" shows version 1.5 Beta 2 (20051004)
