User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20050917 Firefox/1.6a1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20050917 Firefox/1.6a1 Not sure if this is the same as bug 269799 or something different. But if you set the privacy options to clear all private data upon closing, and restart firefox, the old cookies still exist. I've tried this with the 1.5b1, and the latest nightly builds with a clean profile. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Firefox 1.5b1 or Deerpark Alpha 2 2. Set preferences to clear all private data when closing. 3. Visit http://www.cnn.com or http://www.yahoo.com 4. Exit Firefox 5. Reopen Firefox and look at cookies. Actual Results: The cookies from the previous session were still there. Expected Results: It should have been cleared.

No cookies were alive after following your steps. My list was empty. Using a 5 hours old homemade trunk build. Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20050917 Firefox/1.6a1

I re-tried it with the current nightly build (Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20050917 Firefox/1.6a1) In the Preferences UI, in the cookies tab, if you select "Keep cookies until I close Deer Park", the cookies disappear. If you set it to "Keep cookies until they expire" but then click on the "Settings..." button and select "cookies" and "Clear private data when closing Deer Park", the cookies remain. This was the latest build and a clean profile. If you have old cookies in the profile when you select "Keep cookie until I close Deer Park", they remain even if you change the option. It looks like the expiration is taking precedence over the cleanup feature. I thought that the privacy setting should override any expiration timestamp.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050917 Firefox/1.4 ID:2005091707 I see the same. The Clear Privacy Data tool doesn't work well. - I made a new profile with the default settings "Keep cookies until they expire"; - went to http://www.cnn.com/; - set Firefox to clear cookies on exit (this is not default); - restarted Firefox; - and the cookies were still there. When you also check "Ask me before clearing Private Data" you'll see that the option is checked but greyed out. See screenshot: http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/2728/cookies6ru.png This regressed between 1.8b4_2005082602 and 1.8b4_2005082608 and this is exactly the same regression window as in Bug 308384.

I can reproduce this. It does seem like clearing cookies, if the user opts for doing it on quit, should override the preference for how long cookies stay on the system.
This is fixed in the nightly from the 20th, patch from bug 308384. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 308384 ***
