User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/3.2; Linux) (KHTML, like Gecko) Build Identifier: version 1.5 Beta 1 (20050908) This "bug" report is regarding a developer choice, not a real "bug." When attaching a file, there is no directory for the file offered. This, in my view, is a MAJOR mistake. I may even need to stop using thunderbird if this is not corrected. It is very tedious to find a file to attach with out the option of typing in (or cut and paste) the directory name where the file is. I frequently have the file 6 dirs deep. Finding the file in such a directory structure is a nightmare, unless you can cut and paste the directory name, as for example, in version 1.0.4, the previous version I used. Please, oh Please restore the dir name, or at least provide it as an option I can turn on. Jont Allen jba@auditorymodels.org jontalle@uiuc.edu Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.NA 2. 3. I guess you are talking about the (native) gtk file picker? I agree, a path input would be nice. Howver, platform integration isn't going to stop. Probably you should try to influnece the gnome developers if you want this changed...

the native gtk filepicker does have a text location entry, you just have to hit ctrl-l to get to it. also the folder list has typeahead selection so hitting a few leading chars and enter per folder level suffices. you just have to sort of fall face-first onto the keyboard to discover these features, I guess...

sounds like not a nice change. in windows, you can type directory name(s) in the file name field of the file picker.
Severity: major → normal
Component: General → Message Compose Window

Summary: Option of directory name, in "attachments" has been removed. Please put it back as it is a nightmare to find a file, dir by dir. Cut and pasting the dir name is trival, searching for it is very time consuming. → Provide option of directory name, in "attachments" which was removed.

wfm -- location entry where directory to look in can be entered can be accessed via / or ctrl-l or Open Location in file list context menu. http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=136541 seems to say that a button to open the location entry also appears in gtk head since May. see also http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=331404 etc.
