Today the Dutch Firefox builds ship with almost the same searchplugins as the
en-US version, although some urls are localized.

I think it is time to evaluate if all plugins are necessary for the Dutch user
and which plugins are not necessary and with plugins eventually have to be added.

Current plugins:
google
amazondotcom
eBay
yahoo
answers

At least google and yahoo should stay imo and I think we should add Wikipedia,
e.g. instead of answers.
Eventually we can also add VanDale instead of Dictionary.com, although that one
has been removed from en-US afaik.
ebay, google and yahoo each have a localised version, so no problem there.

amazon.nl gets forwarded to amazon.co.uk, there must be an alternative for this,
proxis.be for example?

Wikipedia seems a good alternative for answers

I like vandale.nl, or even nederlandsewoorden.nl, it shows that not only a
search for general information is possible. Van Dale is already contained in
the Quick Search bookmark directory.
dictionary.com became answers.com. There are quite a few Dutch people using
Amazon though. There is a Dutch eBay.
Next week beta2 is coming and I think it is good to solve this asap. My
suggestion is to use these plugins for Firefox 1.5NL:
google
bol.com (eventually praxis.be, but I don't know if they deliver in NL. Bol.com
is a well known website in the Netherlands for buying books online)
eBay
yahoo
wikipedianl
vandale

A site like Vandale or Nederlandsewoorden.nl is maybe not as necessary as the
other ones for most people, but I agree with Hendrik it shows what is possible.
If we add vandale, it has a bit the same function as wikipedia, but vandale has
more (short) descriptions and so I think it is good to have them both.
I prefer vandale instead of nederlandsewoorden.nl, because it more useful.
Nederlandsewoorden.nl only shows which words exist and I think people are
searching in most cases for a description instead of possible words.

Does anyone know what is the common way of asking permissions for adding search
engines? If anyone agrees with the plugins, I can post a patch with these
changes in this bug, but I don't know who I have to ask for review.

I agree with all the others, vandale is better than nederlandsewoorden.

I think proxis would be nicer because it is a local firm, but there is no search
plugin for it, so nl.bol.com is the better option.
You can make the patch and apply it to the trunk and branch. At the moment of
the release of 1.5 RC 1 (in a few weeks) i will ask if mozilla will review it.
I added the new search engines:
http://bonsai-l10n.mozilla.org/cvsquery.cgi?treeid=default&module=all&branch=&branchtype=match&dir=%2Fl10n%2Fnl&file=&filetype=match&who=&whotype=match&sortby=Date&hours=2&date=explicit&mindate=2005-10-02+07%3A04&maxdate=2005-10-02+07%3A06&cvsroot=%2Fl10n

I don't close this bug yet, to evaluate the next nightlys and see if everything
if everything seems ok. If that is verified, this bug can be closed.
