User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050908 Firefox/1.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050908 Firefox/1.4 OS X 10.4 + USB Microsoft Optical Wireless Mouse 2.0 Installed Firefox 1.5b1 (DP) over 1.0.6 release. The Mouse has horizontal scrolling on a tilting mouse wheel. With previous Firefox releases the horizontal scrolling feature mapped to Back and Forward navigation. Once copying the 1.5b1 package over 1.0.6 and running it this stopped working. Looking through all the preferences within Firefox and the System Preference of Mac OS X and the IntelliPoint driver I can't see of any way of correcting this. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: Not sure how to reproduce this reliably - as now my profile has been updated to 1.5. If I was testing this properly, I'd have kept a copy of my profile and done it all again. 1. Install 1.5b1 over 1.0.6 2. Start Firefox 1.5b1 3. Browser to a few sites, see if you can use the horizontal scrolling feature of your mouse to go 'Back' and 'Forward'. Actual Results: Couldn't go back or forward. Expected Results: Navigated back or forward (scroll left = back, scroll right = forward)

Ok - a little more information. It seems that by preferences were being reset by the installation. mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.action was changed from 2 to 0 and... mousewheel.horizscroll.withaltkey.action was set to 2 It would be really good if there was documentation that I could find on the Mozilla site about these preferences. I had to search google and piece together from other people's stories. I'm leaving this bug open, in the hope that this is taken on board about the preferences.

This was intentional. The horizontal scroll wheel on the Mac is supposed to scroll the document horizontally and not do history traversal. Shift+vertical scroll is supposed to do history, but scroll wheel modifiers are broken on the Mac at the moment, and shift is a bad scroll wheel modifier to use on the Mac. That's bug 171680. When that and bug 309227 are fixed, there will be a modifier that lets you do history traversal with a scroll wheel on the Mac by default.
