Reproducible at least when you are configured thunderbird to download email
automatically, every X minutes, in POP3 mode.

When I open a new mail window, thunderbird tries to download new email.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch thunderbird. The problems is reproducible at least under POP3 mode,
download mail automatically every X minutes.
2. Select a folder, right-click and choose "Open New Mail Window".
3. Look thunderbird connecting to the POP3 servers.

Actual Results:  
Thunderbird tries to download new mail.

Expected Results:  
Thunderbird shouldn't try to download new email until the timeout is reached or
the download is activated manually.

Correction.

I reproduced the issue in the 1.5beta1 release, 20050908.

If the matter is already resolved, I could try current build.

The autoupdate for daily thunderbirds seems not to work :-(

I am running Thunderbird build 20050930 (1.5beta1 branch) just now.

I can confirm that the issue is still present.

Thunderbird still tries to download new email and RSS feeds everytime I open a
new mail window.

Reporter, does the issue still occur in the latest supported 2.0.0.x / Shredder trunk nightlies?

(1.5.0.x is now end-of-life and the latest supported 2.0.0.x is 2.0.0.16)
