User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050915 (No IDN) Firefox/1.0.7
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050915 (No IDN) Firefox/1.0.7

I 3 times (last night and this AM (about 9:00 EST) attempted to "automatically"
install the Security Patch for version 1.6 issued September 9. I only learned of
it by checking "news" on PC World site! I clcked on the asddress provided (doubt
that I could type it accurately - why I tried the "easy way to get the patch).
The Dialog Box for Updates showed nothing, but I cliked on Install Updates
anyhow and it searched and "told me" none could be found. Remember I clicked on
the link Firefox Provided (Did say Firefox in dialog box!), but it did not work.
So printed instructions and made the change manually (So new and afraid of this
stuff, I am surprised I figured it all out. Instructions assumed I knew more
than I do, but I poked around (Sorry (NOT!) I am only a real novice with this
stuff - been learning about working on and fixing cars since 1959 and know less
than 20 years ago, there is so much more, but do know how to find out most of
what I need one way or an other. I don't mind having to try and be resurceful,
but do mind when what should work "automatically" doesn't. It can't be fixed, if
no one tells you about it!
Gotta go get bad (real bad) back worked on in hopesof keepingmoving till surgery.
I got the computer to learn about the many things wrong with my back, what to
look out for, what to expect, how to care for it and how/where to find help.
It's been nearly 2 years and most of the time is spent learning the basics of
how to use the computer and "stuff" like Firefox. I was running Netscape before
(till last winter?), as Internet Explorer is so @#$% S - L - O - W! I am too
strapped for cash to go for high speed Internet Service.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Go to Firefox.
2.Click on Security Updates,etc.
3.Follow instructions.

Actual Results:
As sated above, the Firefox update dialog box said "No Updates Could be Found!"

Expected Results:
Producedthe uptate for the IDN Patch!
*** Bug 309475 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
It takes time to roll the updates out through all the channels.

"Gecko/20050915 (No IDN) Firefox/1.0.7" -- interesting, you must have installed
the IDN patch rather than tweak it manually because you have the user agent
change, yet the 1.0.7 installer did not correctly undo it.

I'm also having the same problem with all versions of FF1.5 i've tried, Beta 1 to RC2 (RC2 still does not update to RC3 even though it's been several days since the release).
Basically, I select the "check for updates" from the help menu, and I'm told there are no updates, even though I know that a newer Beta or RC has been released a few days earlier.
I'm running WINXP SP2

There have been several changes to the update software since this bug. If these sorts of problem still happen it's better to start with a fresh bug
