Half confirm on WINXP FF beta 2 build 2005100614: the proposed search above worked good for me. However I encountered this problem too, several times. For instance http://www.projects1.com/firefox/exthacks/FFnightlyextensions.html, even after clicking randomly in the page and trying words that I could clearly see, I would just see the letters I typed in the Find As You Type box, but the textbox background remained white, and the page neither highlighted words nor scrolled to a searchword. I could keep typing until the word would not exist, it just did not matter. BUT. What is confusing is that now I am typing this and I go back to that tab, it DOES find words as it should. I also tried reloading and other pages on the same site, worked fine.

I have the same problem, and it occurs intermittently for me also (though I'm on Mac OSX if that makes a difference). When I have the problem for a prolonged period, I am able to fix it by: 1) moving all of my extension folders (but not files like extensions.rdf--I don't know if this is important or not, but I am nervous deleting anything that didn't belong to an extension)temporarily to another directory when Firefox is closed. 2) Open Firefox fully (it will recreate the extension folders then remove them) 3) Close Firefox 4) Add the extension folders back to the extensions directory For whatever reason, this always and reliably fixes the problem for me.
I have the same problem too (running 1.5 on XP sp2). It is intermittent, but regular.

Closing this bug as WORKSFORME since this works for me. If you can reproduce this using Firefox 2.0.0.4 or later with a clean profile, please comment with details. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager
