After some time (several days), the dead keys no longer work (in forms, etc.):
the character doesn't appear and isn't taken into account in the posted form.
The dead keys still work in other applications. Quitting Firefox and restarting
it solves the problem.

As said in bug 322795, this is really related to dead keys: Selecting another keyboard with accented letters directly available allows to enter them, and selecting the original keyboard back still shows the bug with dead keys.

Probably, its testcase makes the bug appear (and I remember having used an applet shortly before the bug occurred).

Temporarily reopening this bug to mark it as duplicate of bug 347041. Indeed, though bug 313807 was fixed, it didn't fix the dead keys problem, as said in the report of bug 347041.
