310004 - images either don't load or load with major changes

Sometimes images will load with major problems, but still remain the size they
were meant to be. Problems include large grey/black/white areas, shifting (like
the image is sliced in half and the two halfs reversed) inverse colours, and
little icons which appear to be like the colour swatch pallet in photoshop.
Sites I use alot where this happens frequently are http://www.smh.com.au and
http://www.ski.com.au Sometimes refreshing the page will fix the images, more
often it won't. There is no consistency in the sizes, it happens to large and
small files. GIF and JPG formats are affected.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Go to any website. I have encountered it on
http://www.smh.com.au
http://www.ski.com.au (Click Accommodation and go into any accommodation listing)
http://www.istockphoto.com/
Actual Results:  
I get the corrupted images as described above. 

Expected Results:  
Displayed images correctly without any of the effects described above.

also: why isn't there a 'load images' button which can be placed on the taskbar?  (same goes for increase/decrease text size) ...

taskbar?  (same goes for increase/decrease text size) ... and while were' at it, why so many keystrokes (like a windoze browser) to get an autocompleted URL ?
