When I get a popup the main screen becomes reduced in size...

Can't reproduce but it happens with some regularity several times a day.
That looks like you have spyware on this computer.
open a new tab
type about:config
type dom.disable_window_move_resize in the input on that page
set dom.disable_window_move_resize to true
This is INVALID.
