I installed the FlasGot extension online and it was working just fine.
I have relauncehed my machine this morning and the extension is no longer
accessible.
It still appears under tools, but appears inactive and cannot be reactivated.
perhaps i simply do not know where to look to sort this out, but surely the
extensions should not de-activate themselves?

An extension can be disabled if its compatibility info provided by the author doesn't state it is compatible. The place to check is the extension manager (e.g. tools - extensions). Please check what it states for flashgot in the extension manager, try to enable it (e.g. right click flashgot and select enable), and report your findings.
